Today was an amazing day. Vancouver Whitecaps FC had their inaugural match as a newly promoted side to Major League Soccer. Furthermore, they faced their Canadian rivals Toronto FC… and DESTROYED them 4 – 2 in a high energy and physical game. The sun was out and Empire Stadium rang with the cheers (and stomps!) of Whitecaps fans old and new. It was a whole other experience when compared to the matches I attended at Swangard last year.
At 11 this morning I went to Oscar’s to prepare for the match with my fellow Southsiders. We ate, drank, sang and then marched to the pitch. I was seated a bit aways from the rest in the grandstand, seven rows from the touchline. I took some photo and video of the event, but they will never capture the experience of the Whitecaps first victory in the major leagues (and a derby to boot!).
